This is perhaps the most beautiful, intricate, and complex double ikkat weave in the world, considered magical or sacred in many southeast Asian cultures. In Patan Patola both warp and weft threads go through the process of ‘tying and dyeing’ before they are put on the loom to begin the weaving. The weaver uses his deft fingers and imagination to weave preconceived and predetermined patterns by the exact coming together of warp and weft threads to depict patterns of flowers, animals, birds, etc. No wonder Patan Patola sarees are considered auspicious wedding wear. Patan Patola dupatta and stoles are couture wear.
